One of the unlockable body designs I made for Stampede: Racing Royale by Sumo Digital in early development.
With this exploration, we were testing if we could share our current rig (made for an organic body) across a mechanical design. After converting the existing bones placement into anchor points, we aligned the mechanical parts to those anchors for smooth rotations and movement. This required positioning the shoulders and hips wider apart than the organic bodies for effective deformation. This involved extensive testing with technical animation, but we were very pleased with the final result!

I was responsible for modelling, texturing, implementation of characters, costumes and props. All body cosmetics had to have five levels of LOD's to handle the large player count in game. The highest would be viewed on podiums, customisation screens, your own kart and promotional content, the rest were for other players on the map to assist in the high 60 player count per race.

These models were made in early development; modifications have been made since and these renders may not reflect final in-game use.
